Timber Sales
Fond du Lac Forestry sets up about
6-8 timber sales per year. Our current annual allowable harvest is
4,300 cords. Open-Market timber sales are advertised in the
Northland Shopper and a prospectus and bid packet is sent out to
area MLEP or FISTA certified loggers.

“Lund Road Sale” – Carlton County
SW Sec. 7, T49N, R17W
48 acre clearcut with reserves and select cut. 13” DBH aspen
1,123 cords (51% aspen, 39% red maple, 10% paper birch)
“FDL Creek Sale” – Carlton County SESE Sec. 17 & NWNE Sec. 20,
T49N, R17W
59 acre clearcut with reserves. 9-13” DBH aspen
1,281 cords (58% aspen, 29% red maple, 13% paper birch)
Please note: To promote paper birch regeneration pre-harvest soil
scarification by FDL personnel must occur in late summer or early
fall before any cutting is to occur. As a result this sale will have
a 3-year contract period.
If interested in bidding on one or both of these sales you must:
- Be a Fond du Lac Band Member.
- Stop in to the Fond du Lac
Forestry Office and obtain a Bid Form for the sale(s) you are
interested in bidding on.
- Bids must be received, along
with a $1,000 bid deposit for each sale you’re bidding on,
before the auction deadline.
- If your bid is accepted and you
are the highest bidder you will be notified by phone or mail.
You will have 30 days in which to sign the timber sale
contract(s), submit a 25% down payment for each contract, submit
a 20% performance bond for each contract, and complete and have
approved a “Logger Certification” form that certifies your
eligibility to purchase band-preference timber sales.

No bids will be accepted after this
deadline. If no valid bids are received, these sales will be
re-advertised on the open market.

SOLD Request for Bids: Red Pine and
White Pine Sawlogs
1 cord of white pine
sawlogs in 10 and 16 foot lengths, and 0.5 cords of red pine sawlogs
in 8 and 16 foot lengths. Top diameters are between 6 and 23 inches.
The purchased wood must be paid for and removed from the site within
one week of bid award. If the logs are not removed within one week
the logs may be resold to the next highest bidder. Fond du Lac
Forestry can delivery the wood for an additional fee.

This sale is a coppice cut with
reserves. The sale area is approximately 32 acres and may be
examined by prospective bidders. The primary timber type is 8-10
inch DBH aspen.
This sale consists of the following

At this time bids will be accepted from Fond du Lac Band enrolled

This sale is a selective thinning
where only merchantable aspen and paper birch will be removed. The
sale area is 40 acres. The sale may be examined by prospective
bidders. The primary timber is 11-inch DBH aspen.
This sale consists of the following
volumes and minimum acceptable bids listed by species and product:

At this time bids will be accepted from Fond du Lac Band enrolled
and approved loggers only.
This sale is consists of two
different cut types: a select cut area where only merchantable aspen
and paper birch will be removed and a clear-cut with reserves area.
The select-cut sale area is approximately 29 acres and the clear-cut
area is approximately 21 acres. Both areas may be examined by
prospective bidders. A sale map is enclosed. The primary timber on
both cut-types is 11-inch DBH aspen.
