| The Fond du Lac
Forestry program represents a collaboration between different
disciplines and strives for a blend of the best of forest
management, fire management, and public education. The department
has been entrusted with maintaining the health of forested
Reservation lands.
Forest management involves a variety
of responsibilities including, but not limited to habitat
improvement for wildlife, increasing or maintaining biodiversity,
the preservation of natural cultural resources, and the development
of commercial timber and related timber sales and reforestation
programs.
The program is also responsible for
protecting resources through wildland fire suppression, fire
prevention education, and fuels management. This includes the
responsible reintroduction and use of prescribed fire.
Finally, the Fond du Lac Forestry and
Firewise programs seek to share information with area residents
about local forest management practices, wildfire prevention, and
wildfire preparedness around the home consisting of both hand and
mechanical fuels reduction.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to manage Fond du Lac’s Natural
Resources to achieve the needs and desires of the Band while
maintaining ecosystem health and integrity.
Vision Statement
With respect, pride, honesty, trust,
safety and communication we will not only become stronger as an
organization but wiser and more skillful to the community and other
departments, that see what we do and how we do the things we do!
