Why Treaties Matter - Self Government in the Dakota and Ojibwe Nations, is a travelling exhibit on treaties between Dakota and Ojibwe people and the U.S.. The project is a collaboration of the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, the Minnesota Humanities Center, and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian.

This exhibit features:

  • 20 free standing banners with treaty information.
  • A DVD that goes along with the exhibit.
  • One large touch screen where you can listen to speakers such as, Andy Favorite (recently passed), Kevin Leecy, Dr. Anton Treuer, Tom Barrett, Erma J. Vizenor, Stanley Crooks, Floyd “Buck” Jourdain, and many more.

Museum and exhibit hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The exhibit will run from May 28 - June 25, 2012.
