Pharmacy Services and Programs
New Prescription Processing and Automated
Refill Requests
Our pharmacies use an automated telephone
system for refill requests. This system makes it easier to get your
prescriptions filled as quickly as possible when refills are available.
When there are no refills available, we work with the medical staff to
quickly get your prescriptions refilled. All of our pharmacies use a
ScriptPro Robotic Prescription Dispensing System to fill prescriptions.
This allows our Pharmacists spend more time helping patients.
Private Medication Consultation
Pharmacists will always be here to answer
questions about new medications or medications you are already taking.
Every prescription medication is given out in a private counseling room.
This service is offered to everyone receiving medications. This is a quiet
place to talk about medicine in private. We believe that these rooms help
improve communication between patients and pharmacists.
Anticoagulation Clinic**
The Anticoagulation Clinic is available to
help patients who need to take the medications Coumadin® (warfarin) and
Lovenox® (enoxaparin) to treat or prevent blood clots. These medications
require frequent blood tests to make sure the blood is responding
correctly. They also may interact with other medications and even certain
foods. Our pharmacists will meet with you privately to make sure you
understand why you need these medications and what to expect from them. Our
pharmacists have received extensive training in this area and work closely
with your doctor to make sure these medications will be as safe and
effective as possible. If you are taking one of these medications, please
ask your doctor about this service.
Asthma Clinic
Asthma Clinic is a service available at
the Fond du Lac Pharmacy. Through this program, asthma patients receive
one-on-one counseling about their disease. We hope to improve patients’
knowledge of their disease. We do this by educating patients about
medications used to treat asthma and preventative measures used to control
asthma symptoms. Please ask your provider for more information about this
service to get a referral.
Cardiovascular Clinic**
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause
of death in American Indians. The Fond du Lac Pharmacy has a program called
the “Cardiovascular Clinic” that was designed to help people decrease their
chances of developing heart disease. Hypertension (high blood pressure) and
dyslipidemia (high cholesterol) are risk factors that contribute to the
development of heart disease. The cardiovascular clinic is a pharmacy-based
program that helps patients gain control of high blood pressure and/or
cholesterol. Patients in this program will meet with a clinical pharmacy
specialist to monitor, assess, and manage their medications to decrease the
risk of heart disease. Please ask your provider for more information about
this service to get a referral.
COPD Program **
The COPD Program is a service available at the Fond du
Lac Pharmacy. Through this program, patients with COPD receive one-on-one
counseling about their disease. We hope to improve patients’ knowledge of
their disease, medications used to treat COPD, and ways to lessen COPD
symptoms. Please ask your provider for more information about this service
to get a referral.
Medication Therapy Management (MTM)
Pharmacists are medication experts. We are
trained in how medicines work and which medications interact with each
other. MTM is a program at our pharmacies where patients can learn to get
the most out of their medicines. Our pharmacists can give an in-depth
review of your medications to make sure they are the easiest, safest and
best treatments available. We can look over your prescription,
non-prescription, vitamins, supplements and herbal medicines to make sure
each is working, safe and does not interact. Working with you, we will help
set goals for your health care. After our visit, we will give you a list of
all of your current medications. We will also contact your doctor or nurse
for you to suggest changes for your medication therapy. We are happy to
answer any questions you have about medications, even if they did not come
from our pharmacy. Make an appointment or just stop by and ask to speak
with one of our medication experts today!
Smoking Cessation Program
Smoking is the number one preventable cause
of premature death in the United States. The Fond du Lac Pharmacy has a
program to help patients quit smoking or using other tobacco products. We
offer counseling and support to help break habits, as well as medications
to reduce cravings. Patients in this program will attend at least four
one-on-one sessions with a tobacco treatment specialist, and will learn
ways to cope with being smoke-free. Please contact the pharmacy or your
provider for more information.
Patient Education and Community Outreach Programs
The pharmacy staff believes that patient
care comes first. We are here to help so please come and talk to us anytime
you have a question or concern. The Community Outreach program is a service
to connect the community with pharmacy services. We have programs on
different health topics. We also attend health fairs throughout the year to
do disease screenings and educate the community. Also, throughout the year
we will have pharmacy students at the pharmacy. The pharmacy students will
participate in counseling, health fairs, and write a short article on a
medical topic of interest for the community.
** Services currently only available at
the Center for American Indian Resources and Min-No-Aya-Win Pharmacies
Additional programs are always being
developed by our pharmacy staff to help meet the needs of our community.
