Title:
Health, Safety and Nutrition Program Manager
Location: Fond du Lac
Head Start, EHS and CDC
Supervisor: Head Start Director
Pay Basis: Annual
Position Responsibilities:
- The Head Start Health, Safety and Nutrition Program Manager is primarily
responsible for the organization and administration of health/mental health
safety and nutrition services, including medical and dental services.
- Administration and Management:
- Evaluates and updates the annual health and nutrition service plan in
conjunction with the policy council, Health Advisory Board,
parents/guardians and other center staff.
- Assists in the preparation of budget, which includes allocation of funds
for medical, dental, nutrition and safety supplies and equipment. Including
kitchen and maintenance inventories and supplies.
- Organizes and coordinates the health/safety/nutrition services at H.S.,
EHS and CDC.
- Assists with program information reports (PIR) and self-assessment
process as needed.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for responding to
health, safety and nutrition emergencies and daily operations in order to
meet performance standards and program objectives.
- Reviews, evaluates and interprets health records, vital statistics and
other data affecting health services.
- Coordination:
- Organizes and plans the health “HSAC” (Health Services Advisory
Committee of staff, parents/guardians, and other component specialist and
supervise the implementation of the planned activities.
- Plans and assists teaching staff in implementing a health, safety and
nutritional education curriculum while obtaining input from other staff and
parents/guardians.
- Develops a list of local health resources, a system to use these
resources, and establishes working relationships with local providers
- Serves as a liaison to health community and as an advocate for child
health.
- Responsible for nutrition, safety, CTC Screening committees and Health
Advisory Board.
- Provides health/safety and nutrition education opportunities for
families, children and staff.
- Evaluation and Monitoring:
- Develops and implements a plan and system of continuous monitoring and
evaluation of health/safety/nutrition activities. Provide needed monitoring in
the following areas:
- Bus safety, CACFP, Building and playground inspections. Determines areas
of weakness and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
- Monitors the preparation and maintenance of health records for all sites
to ensure records are complete and current.
- Employee Development and Consultation:
- Coordinates and assists staff in implementation of the health program
- Plans and conducts or arranges for training for staff and
parents/guardians and families concerning health education, first aid and
emergency medical procedures and special needs of children with
disabilities.
- Supervises Health Assistant
- Provision/ Assurance of Services
- Promote on-going, preventative and early intervention health services by
assisting parent/guardian and families with arranging health screening
examination, dental exams and treatment/follow-up and by assistance in
linking the family to an ongoing health care system and assists family in
assuming the responsibility for health care of child and family, when
necessary.
- Develops six (6) week cyclic menus with Head Cook’s input and approved
by a Nutritionist.
- Investigates health problems as referred by teaching staff. Records and
formulates plan based on child’s needs.
- Monitors on-going medical conditions, dispenses medication according to
an approved medication plan, and evaluates current health conditions.
- Obtains and files diagnostic reports and confirmation of the medical
conditions /restrictions for identified children and staff.
- Maintains a resource library of resources such a publications and films
for training and circulation purposes.
- Assures transportation for children with related health problems.
- Determines training and technical assistance needs of program staff
relative to special health needs, and requests training to meet needs.
- General Requirements:
- Displays a responsive and professional manner in solving all requests,
complaints and problems.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the
department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Recognizes that employees have certain personal responsibilities which
affect the operational efficiency of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior
Chippewa Maintains proper attendance in accordance with Reservation Business
Committee policy.
- Reports to work on time in accordance with Reservation Business Committee
policy.
- Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band
of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy,
respect, and sensitivity to the needs of every person including visitors and
co-workers.
- Due to changes and modifications from time to time, employees are required
to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management see
the necessity. Some assignments may not be listed on this description.
Physical Requirements:
- Normal physical requirements
Position Qualifications:
- Minnesota License for Practical Nursing (LPN) or higher degree is
required.
- Experience in public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child
health or health administration is required.
- Training and experience in screening and individualized services for
children with disabilities is required.
- Maintain confidentiality of all health records and related material.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to be insured is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
- Ability to establish relationships with all parties involved, and
facilitates harmonious working relationships at work and on projects, and
permit prompt resolution of problems and conflicts as they occur is required.
- Ability to work independently and establish work priorities is required.
Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Subject to pre-employment, post accident, return to duty, follow-up and
random drug testing.

- Some travel is required.
