General Summary:

Provides professional guidance, coordination, and support in the effective and consistent application of staff job classification and compensation administration policies and practices. Administers and maintains various compensation-related data management systems, and coordinates and facilitates implementation of compensation programs and initiatives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides advice, training, and support to staff as appropriate, in the application of compensation management principles, guidelines, procedures, and best practices.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of all position descriptions; new and future job positions; ensuring they are classified correctly based on appropriate regulatory guidelines.
  • Reviews job description and their respective duties to determine classification as exempt or non-exempt and appropriate salary range, and salary scales.
  • Collaborates with Human Resource Management in the analysis and review of job classification and reclassification requests; quality controls the job classification process for both existing positions and newly created positions, and performs job audits as appropriate.
  • Researches and analyzes competitive compensation practices in the job market; contributes to established compensation surveys and/or develops and implements custom surveys as appropriate.
  • Checks job descriptions to accurately describe job content, verifies job classification or reclassification, regulatory requirements, and other compensation issues.
  • Maintains and updates compensation software and consults with Human Resource Information System (HRIS) Specialist and HR Management regarding problems with data integrity, reporting, and makes recommendations for system enhancements.
  • Assists and collaborates, as appropriate, in the planning, coordination, facilitation, administration, and reporting of the annual salary review program as requested.
  • Works with Human Resources staff as appropriate to assist with organizational structure development, job design, and related issues.
  • Assists in the development, writing, editing, and modification of operating policies, guidelines, and procedures as they relate to compensation.
  • Must attend all mandatory department meetings.
  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
  • Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or other closely related field; 4 years of professional experience in compensation; or a combination of education and experience is required.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports is required.
  • Knowledge of statistical sampling and survey methodology is required.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, staffing patterns, and job design is required.
  • Knowledge of Job analysis and job evaluation principles, methods, and procedures is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
  • Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
  • Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
