Pharmacy Services and Programs

New Prescription Processing and Automated Refill Requests:

We utilize an automated telephone system for refill requests.  This system makes for the most efficient way to get your prescriptions filled in a timely manner when there are refills available.  When there are no refills available or remaining refills are expired, we work with the medical staff to quickly get the authorization needed to get your prescriptions refilled as soon as possible. In December 2003, the Min-No-Aya-Win Pharmacy added a ScriptPro Robotic Prescription Dispensing System to increase efficiency and allow our Pharmacists to spend more time counseling patients.

Private Medication Consultation:

This is a service offered to everyone receiving new medications to promote confidentiality and to expand patient education.  We can also talk to you if you have concerns about something you are regularly taking.  We believe this promotes good communication between patients and healthcare providers, as there are no barriers and outside distractions when counseling is taking place.

Patient Education and Community Outreach Programs:

The pharmacy staff believes in an “open door policy” when it comes to patient education.  Anytime you have a question or concern, please don’t hesitate – come and talk to us, we’re here to help.  The Community Outreach program is a service which provides a link between the community and pharmacy staff.  Opportunities are available for patients to attend health-education focus groups, receive health-related information, and obtain personalized medication reviews.  We also have an article of interest each month with tips about taking prescriptions safely, new drug information, etc.

Cardiovascular Clinic at MNAW:

The Min No Aya Win Cardiovascular Clinic (CV Clinic) was developed late in 2001 to help address cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death in American Indians. Both Hypertension (elevated blood pressure) and Dyslipidemia (cholesterol abnormalities) are strong risk factors that contribute to the development of heart disease.  The cardiovascular clinic is a pharmacy-based program that allows patients to gain control of elevated blood pressure and/or cholesterol.  Patients may become involved in the cardiovascular clinic upon referral by their primary medical provider. To achieve optimal outcomes, patients enrolled in the cardiovascular clinic receive intensive monitoring, assessment, and medical management by a clinical pharmacy specialist.   Pharmacists working in this clinic (including our CV Clinic Manager) have extensive post-graduate training in this area and are nationally credentialed by the Indian Health Service as National Clinical Pharmacy Specialists in Cardiovascular Care.

Anticoagulation Clinic at MNAW:

The Min No Aya Win Anticoagulation Clinic (ACC) was developed in June 2001 to monitor, assess, and medically manage patients on anticoagulant therapy.  Patients are selected into this service based upon a referral from their primary care provider. Due to multiple drug interactions, potential adverse effects, and vast amounts of education associated with anticoagulation therapy, patients require close monitoring to ensure safe and effective outcomes.  The overall goal of our ACC is to improve and optimize patient outcomes through a pharmacist-run clinic that specializes in this type of therapy.  Clinical pharmacists working in the Anticoagulation Clinic interview, assess, and medically manage patients at each appointment to obtain information necessary to reach this goal. Pharmacists working in this clinic (including our ACC Manager) have extensive post-graduate training in this area and are nationally credentialed by the Indian Health Service as National Clinical Pharmacy Specialists in Anticoagulation.

Adult Immunizations at MNAW/CAIR:

The pharmacists at the Fond du Lac Human Services Division Pharmacies have all been nationally certified by the American Pharmacists Association to give adult immunizations. Starting in the fall of 2004, the Fond du Lac Pharmacies will be offering influenza vaccinations to eligible patients in an effort to increase immunizations rates in the community. Our goal is to increase the access and make it more convenient for patient’s to get their annual influenza vaccinations.

Asthma Education at MNAW:

Asthma Education at Min-No-Aya-Win is the newest addition to our pharmacy services. Patients may become involved in the asthma program upon referral by their primary medical provider. The overall goal of our asthma education is to improve and optimize patient outcomes through a pharmacist-run program that specializes in asthma and allergies. To achieve optimal outcomes, patients enrolled in asthma education receive intensive monitoring, assessment, and medical management of their disease-state by their medical providers, a pharmacist/asthma educator, and a public health nurse.
