Q & AWho is eligible? The Diabetes
Program will purchase an At Home kit for Native Americans age 17 or
older receiving services at Min No Aya Win (MNAW) or The Center for
American Indian Resources (CAIR) that enroll in the program. Non-Native
clients at MNAW and CAIR can still enroll in the program, but will need to
purchase their own kit.
How do Non-Native clients purchase a kit?
Kits can be ordered by completing an order form. Weight
Watchers will accept a check or credit card. The cost is $99.90 for a
standard kit and $124.90 for a deluxe kit.
How is this program different from Weight Watchers
Traditional Membership? This program will be led
by health professionals from MNAW and CAIR, not by a Weight Watchers staff
member. Weight Watchers leaders are role models because they’ve lost and
maintained weight on the Weight Watchers program and have completed
training programs. The Traditional Membership involves a registration fee
and weekly fee. This program will only have the At Home kit fee,
which will be funded by the Diabetes Program for eligible participants as
stated above.
What if I already belong to a traditional Weight
Watchers program? If you are eligible for
services here, you may come to our program. However, if you choose to
return to a traditional Weight Watchers program you will need to rejoin
(pay required fee).
Why did you choose Weight Watchers?
Clients have been requesting it for years. Weight Watchers is a lifestyle
modification program recognized as a safe and sensible way to manage your
weight and has been around for over 40 years. The program includes
healthful food choices, physical activity and regular follow-up.
When can I start? Registration
is open at both locations. Weekly
meetings are Thursdays, at MNAW and Mondays, at CAIR.
What time are the meetings? You
may choose a 12:00 or 4:45 meeting at either location. The first 20 minutes
will be weigh-in time, followed by support group and education. Meetings
last about an hour.
