Title: Payroll Specialist, Full Time
Location: FDL Tribal Center
Supervisor: Financial Director
Closing Date: November 29, 2022
Rate of Pay: $20.41 to $22.97 per hour

 

General Summary:

Primary duties include processing weekly and bi-weekly payrolls. The position will be responsible for the review of the changes to employee master records, approval of payroll reports prior to final processing, and printing of payroll checks. The position requires attention to detail and the ability to work with a variety of staff to improve payroll efficiency and the accuracy of paychecks and payroll reports.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review all changes to employee master records in the payroll system for accuracy.
  • Process Employee Verification forms.
  • Process payroll checks, accounts payable checks, and electronic direct deposit files.
  • Submit electronic direct deposits files to the bank.
  • Review and approve payroll and related reports prior to acceptance of final processing.
  • Prepare and maintain weekly payroll reports for management.
  • Prepare weekly payroll and benefit report for reimbursement.
  • Transmit all Federal and State tax liabilities, review for accuracy.
  • Test the payroll system for software and payroll data upgrades.
  • Assists with preparation for any/all audits and reviews by outside agencies and accounting firms.
  • Assist in the evaluation and implementation of appropriate payroll policies and controls for payroll processing and incorporate system enhancements to increase efficiency and ensure data integrity.
  • Serve as back up for the Financial Director.
  • Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees, band members, and/or clients.
  • Appropriate work attire is required.
  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
  • Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal physical requirements.

Position Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required. Degree or certificate in the business field is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of payroll experience is required. Additional accounting experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, Access, Excel and Microsoft Outlook is required.
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment and establish work priorities is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.

  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.

  • Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
  • Some travel may be required.
