Position Responsibilities:
- Manages and administers a well-balanced athletic program for all interested students in the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School. Works with coaches, sponsors, student managers and the School Principal in the delivery of services for an effective program including selection and care of equipment, site preparation, practice organization and the participant’s safety. Develops and monitors a comprehensive athletic budget.
- Verifies and maintains athletic eligibility forms.
- Requests sanction for contests as needed.
- Responsible for MSHSL follow-up interpretation and dissemination of information.
- Coordinates transportation/meals for athletic teams.
- Contracts officials for appropriate athletic contests.
- Recruits and assigns personnel to work as crowd supervisors, scorers, timers, announcers and for other game management duties as needed.
- Initiates requisitions for the issuance of checks for officials, supervisory personnel, and entry fees.
- Reviews crowd control assignments with all supervisors including police officers.
- Coordinates game management for all home athletic contests with contest workers, building administrators, contest officials and Law Enforcement personnel.
- Responsible for collaboration with the School Principal for planning the athletic budget.
- Submits requests for purchase of athletic equipment and supplies and forwards all requests to the School Principal.
- Ensures implementation of an efficient system for equipment acquisition, destruction, repair, custody and inventory.
- Reviews all athletic schedules and submits recommendations to the School Principal.
- Sets schedule for all activities by June 1st.
- Secures permission for the use of practice and game facilities and coordinates with the Facilities Manager and the Community Recreation Director.
- Provides a monthly report and attends monthly school board meetings.
- Disseminates athletic schedules and change notices to students and parents of all athletic events.
- Corresponds with other schools and the MSHSL as necessary for the management of the program.
- Coordinates award presentation at the school programs.
- Makes recommendation to the School Principal for coaching.
- Works with coaches and school administrators to publish, implement and update coach’s handbooks and athletic codes.
- Displays a responsive and professional manner in solving all requests, complaints, and problems.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Recognizes that employees have certain personal responsibilities which affects the operational efficiency of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
- Required to maintain proper attendance and reports to work on time in accordance with Reservation Business Committee policy.
- Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of every person including visitors and co-workers.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as management sees the necessity. Some assignments may not be listed on this description.
Physical Requirements:
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Position Qualifications:
- One to two years related experience and/or training is recommended.
- Must demonstrate effective writing and speaking skills.
- Experience in Microsoft Outlook and other communication devices are recommended.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
- Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
- Ability to provide prompt resolution to problems and conflicts as they may occur is required.
- Subject to pre-employment annual background checks, and annual reference checks.
- Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
- Subject to testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Employee Drug and Alcohol Policy.
- Some travel may be required.
