Project Intersect
Ms. Jen Lees and Ms. Jan Koivisto

Ms. Jan & Jen will be team teaching with the 7 & 8th Grade Students for Project Intersect this year. These two teachers have a busy year planned for these students. Their “theme” is Gift Giving. What a better way to encourage students to “give” than to make gifts for giving. Great Idea! Here is what’s in store…

  • September- Presenter- Danny Barney- Making Rice Knockers; Rice Camp; Tour FDL Museum
  • October- Birch Bark Baskets with Danny Barney; Beaded Socks; Asema Pouches; Environmental Field Observation for Identifying Plans/trees; Spirit Houses
  • November- Grass Dolls/Toys; Field Trip to Tweed/Planetarium; Mille Lacs Museum
  • December- Dream Catchers; Hand Drums; Field trip to Wolf Ridge; Trapping
  • January- Moccasins; Snow shoeing; Field Trip to Nett Lake Museum
  • February- Net Making; Ice Fishing
  • March-Net Making; Sugar taps;
  • April- Canning; Fry Bread; Sugar Camp
  • May- LaCrosse; Fishing Poles; Field Trip to Wisconsin Pointe and Sandy Lake
  • June- Plants for tea making; birch bark peeling; Cloquet Forestry

This is just a sample of what these students will be doing during the school year. Once again- these students have an awesome opportunity to be a part of Project Intersect that will enhance their knowledge in their Ojibwe Culture. Miigwech Jan & Jen for giving your students this unique opportunity!
