Hi and welcome to Ms. Sherri’s Kindergarten Class! We have lots of fun and learn so much during this important year of our education. We use the Success for All (SFA) curriculum which includes learning in all of the academic areas. SFA includes a Math Link component in which homework sheets will be sent home with us at least once a week. The activities on the sheets should be completed at home and sent back to school the next day. Later in the year, after we have completed our sound study, we will also be bringing home our Shared Stories nightly with Read & Respond bookmarks. More information about Shared Stories and bookmarks will be forthcoming. In addition to learning in our classroom, we also gain knowledge from our many specialists in Ojibwe Language, Computer, Gym, and Library. Show-and-Tell will be on Fridays. Children may each bring in one item on this day to share (no violent items, please). Here are the classroom rules:
Our Kindergarten uses a system of color changes for behavior. Each day, all children begin at GREEN. A warning is given, and if the behavior continues, the child receives a color change. The color order is GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW, ORANGE, and RED. Brief “thinking times” are given at the YELLOW and RED. If the behavior continues beyond the RED, the student will be referred to the Discipline Team. All students who have made good behavior choices and do not reach RED during the week will be able to participate in FUN FRIDAY. For FUN FRIDAY, we watch part of a movie and eat popcorn or engage in some other exciting activity to celebrate our good week!!! Let’s all have a great 2009-2010 school year!
