Ms. Robin's 2nd Grade Classroom

Success For All (SFA)

Aaniin. Welcome to our new reading curriculum, SFA. SFA is research based. Initial assessment provides students to be placed in their current reading level. Once they have mastered the required current reading skills they will advance on to the next level reading group.

Our teachers here at FDL are very excited to be part of this program because it will allow our students to achieve and master comprehensive reading skills as well as to continue advancing on. This is a very structured reading program of which our students will be with their reading teacher/group for 90 minutes. It does not matter what grade a student is, but rather it is based on their current reading level. We achieve this by testing our students when entering school, and then again at the end of our quarters.

The following are very important components to SFA:

HOMEWORK: Our students will be bringing a book home of which our parents will help read with them for 20-minutes each evening. We will be sending home a READ and RESPOND sheet home with your child and we would like our parents to sign for that particular Day (example : Day 1, Day 2, or Day 3.) There will be a question on each day that they will need to answer with your child as well. After Day 3, our children will keep their books at home and return the READ and RESPOND form for that book.

Behavior: Our students begin the school year by participating in “Getting Along” procedures and “Conflict Resolutions.” Both of these are a very big part of getting our students ready for SFA. They are helpful for our students because it allows them to learn ways of getting along and peaceful ways to resolve conflicts. These strategies help them make good choices and therefore they are able to work things out, really get long with their peers and teachers, and thus do well in school. It also creates a positive attitude for our classroom and children.

Tutoring: Students who require extra help in reading, will receive a one-on-one tutor for 20 minutes every day. This is a benefit that will boost their reading level skills and to become confident readers.
