Boozhoo!

We are already half way through our third quarter! This school year is really flying by. We have a lot of fun things going on this month. We just went snowshoeing at Sophie Lake last Friday and had a blast. The weather was nice and the class found a beautiful trail through the woods to snowshoe on. Here’s a look at what’s been going on:

Math– Right now we are learning about algebra. Students have been learning about variables and how to solve multi-step equations. We will be starting to use the smart board clickers to engage students more and to help me see exactly what material the students are struggling with.

Reading/Language Arts– We are still reading “Homecoming” by Cyntia Voight and have a couple of weeks left before we finish the book. Students have been doing a good job with showing their comprehension and vocabulary. However, it is very important that students come to school every day. If they miss one day of reading, they are behind 20 pages in the novel and can be very difficult to catch up.

Science/Social Studies– In Science, we have been learning about ecosystems, communities, etc. We just wrapped up Chapter 1 and will be moving onto biomes in Chapter 2. In Social Studies, we have been reading and discussing “The Four Hills of Life” by Thomas Peacock and Marlene Wisuri. Again, students have been showing a strong understanding of many different topics and I have been learning so much from them.
